I’m actually excited for Tuesday

Not because I have a Valentine or anything. Honestly have never cared for the entire Valentine’s Day thing - partly because of family history, partly because of ACTUAL (world) history, and partly because I’m an irksome ol’ hobgoblin. 

But I decided I was going to get my man-friend some flowers. We were talking last year and I was saying that, although I don’t want to celebrate the commercial holiday, it’s still sweet to see people exchanging or just giving gifts with a good heart. And I rambled on to talk about how I think receiving flowers is just a completely flattering thing and I wished people did it more often.

He agreed and said guys never get flowers. I never thought they’d appreciate it but I’ve been proven wrong before. We said we’d exchange flowers last year, but it never happened due to financial strains and natural forgetfulness.

What with all the reminders of Valentine’s Day abounding everywhere, I couldn’t help but reflect on this conversation we’d had. I resolved to do it this year as a surprise. 

I’ve learned from his roommate what his preferred flowers are (William was sneaky and I appreciate his cooperation!): snapdragons, tulips, or a wildflower arrangement of sorts. Also, with William’s help, I might drop these off at his apartment anonymously, with only a note attached, in the morning before William leaves and while Friend is in the shower.

And, to top it all off, I had the best idea while out with my friend on Friday: CHURROS. We had some churros in the mall and we were so excited about how perfect they are and then I realized how much better it would be to get Friend a dozen churros plus some flowers, rather than just some flowers.

So, I will have a churro bouquet accompanied by some snapdragons (hopefully; if not, tulips) and a note.

I’M EXCITED.
